UK RPG magazines - getting there!!

 

Following on from the last post, here's a recent buy. Luckily for me condition is not something I worry about as long as they're complete.

I have done a (very) vague collection goal for UK mags and once again am wondering why I am bothering!

So I need (pretty subjective word bearing in mind we are talking about magazines that are generally between twenty and thirty years old) the following.

White Dwarf from 20-100

All 31 Imagines,

AND Valkyries, Fantasy Chronicles, Role Player Independent, Games Master international,GM Independent, Adventurer,Arcane and Gamesman.

There are probably more but I need to limit myself a bit, though there was a UK mag that I had a couple of copies that came with a plastic binding spine that I cannot remember the name of for the life of me!!

As we speak I need roughly a hundred more magazines, as well as a corresponding amount if really useful boxes to put them in.

Reading through these can be really interesting particularly as I have no actual gaming history between about 1989 and the present day - who knew LARPing and Vampire were a real thing that normal(ish) people got involved in!!

Happy days though, onward and upward.

Adventurer Magazine #1 Review

My current rpg collecting is now in its final form, which is as follows;

1 - D&D stuff (mainly Forgotten Realms but a little bit fluid).

2 - Traveller stuff - as much as I want.

3 - OD&D - good luck with that on my budget!

4 - UK RPG magazines.

So (4) is where we are at here. UK magazines are generally cheapish and readily available, in fact  generally can be more than the item itself.

I will subsequently list what I have and where I'm at but for now here is a new acquisition, Adventurer #1.

Brief review, it's ok.

90p in 1986 seems about right and it has a reasonable amount of content.

The fantasy adventurer, of which this is part one of 2 is formulaic but solid, nothing new in heaven and earth but ok.

The CoC adventure is actually quite decent but again, nothing much is new. The maps though are quite decent , but seem a bit overproduced for what is required (1986 was a bit like this though).

Miniatures stuff is again of its time, standard issue figures by decentish painters.

The reviews shine, seem well balanced and well thought out, good stuff.

Adverts if course are a joy, we can never get back to the halcyon years where all these products were on, and remained on, shelves in the high street. I know that times have changed but......

You should go to this, and maybe try and buy some D&D stuff.

Best charity shop find ever

 

wowza!

This little lot came from a semi-local charity shop. Found the majority over a week ago but had to ask them to hold for me as my credit card wouldn't go through. (Called up Tesco Bank to have a pop at them as there was no good reason for this - only to be asked by the very patient lady "have you still got your expired card in your wallet, as it seems that this was the card that was used"! Cue sheepish apology)

Anyway I went back the following Monday to find the shop closed up. Called all week and finally got through on Friday to a lovely lady who remembered me and was sorry but they had been struck down by the dreaded Covid.

Monday comes again and I went in to collect my haul as well as a bundle of Players association News and mono modules that were on the shelf - oh happy day.

These weren't super cheap (a deal though) but once I've filled in some gaps in my LBB and WD collection will certainly pay for themselves. In a different collecting world I would definitely be keeping more of this stuff but I am trying to be a bit more controlled in what I want, even to the point where I am sort of making lists. Very pleased indeed, just need to get some on eBay so I can pay off the cc before the statement comes in🙄!
